Ali Eats America is a powerful story of cancer, family, food, and survival, seen through the eyes of a 17-year-old chemotherapy patient. Determined to embrace life to the fullest, Ali leaves the hospital behind, setting out on an adventure across the United States. From pitmasters to pizzerias, greasy spoons to 12 course meals- meeting renowned chefs José Andrés and Wolfgang Puck along the way. Aliâs journey tells an honest, tearful, and humorous story of living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis.
Director's Statement
We first heard Aliâs story through a NY Post article and immediately knew we wanted to be part of his journey. Inspired by Anthony Bourdainâs Parts Unknown, our pitch was simpleâdocument Aliâs food adventures in a similar style. Before traveling across the country, we were welcomed into the Allouche-Danko household, gaining unprecedented access to Aliâs life and battle with cancer. We captured the unflinching reality of his experiences, in the hospital and on the road. Our goal was to highlight Aliâs resilience and create a film that resonates with anyone touched by cancer, leaving the audience hopefulâand a little hungry.
