United States, 2017, 18 min.

In English/Czech with English subtitles.
This film is family friendly.

Anna works two jobs in New York City in order to save for college. Her mom worries about her daughter and wants her to come back home. However, her grandfather, who has lived nearly his entire life under a communist regime encourages her to take advantage of the freedom available post-Soviet control and go to college in America. But freedom in Anna's case is a relative concept. When she is ready to apply to school, she meets an unexpected challenge. Nevertheless, Anna doesn't give up on her dream.

Director's Statement

Anna was created as part of an honors program at Hunter College of the City University of New York. This honors program was a production seminar, where ANNA started as an idea and have been transformed into a short film over a one year period. I have been fortunate to bring together an amazingly talented team of professionals from the Czech Republic and New York to work on this project. We have shot six days in New York and one day in Prague, and subsequently finished the post-production process in the Czech Republic. The film aims to provide the audience with an appreciation for the diversity of the immigrant population in the U.S., the varied nature of the challenges they face, and a better understanding of the work ethic and drive that so many immigrants bring to the country.
