The Waiting
Voker Schlecht
Germany, 2023, 15 min.
This film is family friendly.
Karen Lips is researcher and lives for several years in a tiny little shack in Costa Rica to observe frogs. When she leaves the cloud forest for a short time and returns, the frogs are gone. All of them. Karen sets out to find them – and encounters a horrible truth.
Director's Statement
When Alexander Lahl and Max Mönch had sent me their exclusive interview with Karen Lips, her commitment impressed me right from the start. But then came Covid19. After months I realized that these frogs and their dying were like a "writing on the wall." So, I decided to connect and confront these different worlds with each other. I’ve also tried to show the process of a hand drawn animation by using the afterglow of the movement as a picture in its own right, paying tribute to Pas de deux by Norman McLaren from 1968, the year I was born.
