Sin Vergüenza (Without Shame)

David E. Valdez
United States, 2019, 13 min.

In Spanish with English subtitles.
Includes adult language.

Two men, unknown to one another, cross paths somewhere in the hot Arizona desert. One man, an illegal immigrant, is making his way back to his family in Tucson, and the other is a wounded Mexican drug runner, hoping to get back to Mexico safely. An introduction and small talk leads to a discussion about the legitimacy their illegal actions. Although both men are breaking the law, this short film sheds light on the reality of what some chose to do in order to survive.

Director's Statement

The idea for Sin Vergüenza (Without Shame) came to me as a result of hearing both sides of the illegal immigration debate. The film illustrates two examples of the situation America is facing today; illegal immigrants and illegal drugs coming across our southern borders. This project is very important because the illegal immigration problems we are witnessing today really has no clear cut answers for resolve. The more we do nothing, the number of illegal immigrants will continue to grow. Simply building a wall will not prevent immigrants from entering our country illegally much less, secure our border.
