A legal educator and activist reflects on her work along the US-Mexico border, a journey that guides her and her students to a compassionate Texas community where generosity and empathy are deeply intertwined.

Director's Statement

A City That Cares follows Dr. Irene Pons, an immigration lawyer and professor, as she immerses her students in the realities of the U.S.-Mexico border. Since 2020, we’ve documented their journey, witnessing the struggles of asylum seekers and the humanitarian efforts supporting them. In El Paso, Texas, we found a community embracing migrants, offering hope beyond the hardships. Narrated by Dr. Pons, this short essay film captures a transformation—from suffering to resilience—highlighting the power of human connection and advocacy in the pursuit of justice.
