Director's Statement
The Way We Carry Water was born out of my own experience growing up in northern New Mexico. After my grandfather passed away, I inherited a sense of stewardship for the acequia, its water and the stories it carries. My aim was to honor this culture and show tradition in small gestures: a shovel turning soil, water released into a field, a boy learning from an elder. Above all, I wanted the film to feel like it belongs to the place. Its light, its seasons, its rhythms.
