Starting Line
Brenton Bender
United States, 2024, 15 min.
In English.
This film is family friendly.
When a cross country coach pits two siblings against each other, Brody pushes himself to outpace his younger brother, Archie. But restless nights and a botched practice cause Brody's frustration to boil over and he lashes out - leaving Archie injured and forcing them both to deal with the consequences.
Director's Statement
Starting Line explores how family bonds, though wrought by rivalry and tension, remain our strongest connections. Sibling relationships can often feel like a competition where love and frustration exist side by side, but when conflict pushes emotions to a breaking point, we face a choice - drift further apart or come together. This film is about that reckoning, the unspoken understanding between family and how even through pain those ties endure. My hope is for Starting Line to resonate as a story of reconciliation, reminding us that in times of tension, family is what keeps us grounded.
