An Invitation
Raphael von Blumenthal
United Kingdom, 2024, 12 min.
In English.
Includes violence, sexual content and adult language.

An actor on the cusp of landing a life changing role is called into his agents’ office and invited to apologise for anything he might ever have done to a woman, sexually, that was wrong. Following a chance encounter and unexpected news, he asks himself who and what such an apology would ultimately be for.
Director's Statement
The denial of sexual assault by powerful men is a familiarly grim spectacle. Denied private justice, women must relive their traumas publicly, still only to face a violent backlash. As liberal men, it's easy for us to condemn the bad ones and feel absolved - but who does it really serve? And so, An Invitation - to ask. Of myself, and of other men. Of those not with the power. What would it take for us to hold ourselves accountable? Why do we continue to tolerate a cycle of denial? And do we have it in us to break it?
