Hand

Jennifer Winterbotham
United States, 2025, 17 min.

In English.

Following an abrupt breakup with her long-term boyfriend Justin, Amber finds a splinter buried in her hand. The wound soon becomes infected and swollen, evolving into Hand—a persistent and painful presence that grows increasingly grotesque. Deciding to ignore it, Amber fixates on the stains Justin left on the carpet over the course of their relationship. As her obsession intensifies, so does the seriousness of her infection.

Director's Statement

At its heart, Hand is a breakup film framed as a body-horror comedy about a young woman reclaiming control of her life after letting someone treat her carelessly. I wanted to make something weird, gross, and fun—leaning into the messy chaos of young relationships, even when you know they’re not meant to last. Like a splinter, those early heartbreaks may be small in the larger context of our lives, but when left unaddressed, they can fester and become all-consuming.
